T20 World Champions - Team Pakistan

T20 World Champions - Team Pakistan

This is the team that has defied all odds and has finally brought the T20 World Cup home, to a country where the law and order situation was not looking good, to a country where the future of cricket was looking dull, to a country that is fighting a war to protect the rest of the world. At a time when international teams were not prepared to come to Pakistan, and India playing the role of arch nemesis and wanted to end Cricket from Pakistan. Pakistan as on countless other occasions in history has proved everyone wrong and have brought the T20 World Cup.

How fitting that they not only brought the cup home, but brought it home after snatching it from the Indians, who were on cloud 9 even before the World Cup had started. Pakistanis were being considered as under-dogs and were being thought of being among the teams who loose out in the early stages, but Younis Khan proved everyone wrong. With one do or die match after the other the team proved again and again that they were ready to handle the pressure and that they were all set to lift the cup. Remember the cornered tiger sppech made by Imran Khan in World Cup 1992, if you do not then just check the speech below.

As the great Khan said “A cornered tiger is at its dangerous”. The do or die games brought out the cornered tiger and not only brought it out but made it consistent. The year was 1992, The Coach was Intekhab Alam, The Captain was Imran KHAN, The cup was the World Cup, the team was being regarded as under-dog and the team bought it it home. And now the year is 2009, the Coach is Intekhab Alam, The Captain is Younis KHAN, the cup is the T20 World Cup, the team was being regarded as under-dog and the team bought it it home. After 17 long years Pakistan are again the World Champions.

The team has not only brought the cup home, but also a great deal of pride with it as well. Some other highlights of this win are as follows:

  • Pakistan has shown the Indians what happens when you try to mess with the Nation and the Nation’s Game. :)
  • Pakistan have not only become the T20 World Champions, but have become the World Champions, taking the title away from the Indians.
  • Pakistan have shown that South Africans are indeed chokers, defeating a team that had been unbeaten in the entire tournament.
  • Pakistan proved that they can beat South Africa in a world cup and thus dismissing the myth.
  • Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka in the Final, another team that was unbeaten in the entire tournament.
  • Pakistan has made up for the loss incurred at the same ground in the Final of the World Cup 1999 against Australia, ten years ago.
  • This win is being viewed as the best gift for the Nation after the Nuclear Blasts in May 1998.
  • This win has played an important part in rejoicing the Nation and will help in gelling together, just like the team in the World Cup.

In  the end all that is left to be said is, Many thanks to Almighty Allah, Long live Pakistan, Long live the People of Pakistan, Long Live the Armed Forces of Pakistan. May Pakistan play the same role in the Muslim World as it currently plays in T20 Cricket. May Pakistan gel togather all the Muslim Countries (states) and lead to the real path of success. Aameen. Pakistan Zindabad Pakistan Paindabad.
